The bail was raised for a man who was taken into custody at Lincoln University after a deadly shooting erupted during a homecoming event this weekend, according to the Chester County District Attorney’s Office.
Zecqueous Morgan-Thompson, who allegedly had a gun on him, was originally being held of $25,000 bail but that has since been raised to $1 million, District Attorney Barrena-Sarobe said on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
The bail was raised after investigators discovered the semi-automatic pistol he was carrying matched a spent shell casing at the scene, according to Barrena-Sarobe.
Also, on Tuesday, Oct. 28 Lincoln University President Brenda Allen addressed members of the press to discuss the recent incident.
“At this time, we will not be able to answer the questions that you undoubtably have,” she told members of the media. “We want you to know that we hear you and I hope you will allow us to protect the privacy of the victims and their families.”
She also noted that the school is working closely with law enforcement officials on their investigation.
And, Allen noted, the school is focused on the welfare of students and faculty after the deadly shooting on Saturday night took the life of 20-year-old Jujuan Jeffers, of Wilmington, Delaware.
Six other people were wounded in the shooting that happened during outdoor festivities as students and alumni celebrated homecoming at the historically Black school.
Officials are also saying they believe more than one person may have been involved in this incident and they are still seeking other suspects.
Classes were canceled on Monday, Oct. 27, and the university instead held a vigil for the victims in this shooting.
