Hundreds gathered in downtown Erie today for the annual Erie March for Life, a decades‑old event organizers say is focused on keeping their message visible in the community.
Marchers moved through downtown Erie Saturday morning for the 1.1‑mile walk. Organizers say the goal is consistency, maintaining the event nearly five decades after it began.
Tim, one of the event organizers, says while people may disagree on the issue, participants believe their message is important.
“Most people understand that abortion is problematic. Some people come down on one side or the other, but we think our arguments are reasonable and very necessary,” Tim said.
The march wound through several downtown blocks before looping back to Perry Square for a closing program. The program included a prayer service, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the national anthem.
Participants say being out in public is a way to ensure their message is seen and heard beyond just the march itself. Stephanie Logue reported.
One marcher, Abigail, says she believes it’s especially important for young women to be involved.
“Abortion is murder just on the surface level, and I, as a young woman, think it’s very important for young women to show that we want families and we need more people in this world,” she said.
