READING, Pa. – A Berks County man will spend up to four decades behind bars for the death of his infant son.
Joshua Leas was ordered Friday to serve between nine and 40 years in a state prison.
Leas pleaded “no contest” to third-degree murder last month. That means Leas didn’t admit guilt, but he also didn’t oppose the charge.
Police arrested Leas in 2017 after authorities said he “violently shook” 4-month-old Logan Jeffrey Leas. The infant was rushed to Reading Hospital, where medical examinations revealed bleeding in the brain.
The baby was transferred to Hershey Medical Center, where he died three days later. An autopsy revealed the cause of death to be a traumatic head injury, officials said.
Leas owned Designs by Leas in Wyomissing and served as president of the Reading Hockey League, according to his social media profile.
