NBC10 Philadelphia / WCAU announced award-winning journalist David Charns has been named investigative reporter for NBC10. In his new role, which begins May 18, Charns will contribute investigative reporting weekdays across WCAU’s television, streaming and digital platforms.
A veteran journalist with 16 years of local news experience, Charns joins NBC10 from 8 News Now / KLAS-TV, the CBS affiliate in Las Vegas, where he has served as an investigative reporter and fill-in anchor since 2020. In that role, he led investigations and covered breaking news, hosted streaming newscasts and podcasts, and created digital editorial.

Charns is an accomplished journalist whose work has earned multiple prestigious honors, including a 2024 Regional Edward R. Murrow Award and several Pacific Southwest Emmy Awards across investigative reporting, writing, and team coverage. His investigative reporting has driven real-world impact, including prompting changes to Nevada DUI laws.
Prior to his time in Las Vegas, Charns worked as an anchor and reporter at WMTW 8 in Portland, Maine, where he led coverage of major regional stories and anchored top-rated weekday morning newscasts for the ABC-affiliated station. He began his career at NBC5 / WPTZ in Burlington, Vt., where he led the Upper Valley news bureau.
Charns holds a Master of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and American Studies from Boston University.
