Pennsylvania memorial honors fallen officers with ties to Susquehanna Valley

Two memorial ceremonies in Harrisburg today are honoring Pennsylvania law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, including four from the Susquehanna Valley.The first ceremony is scheduled to take place at 11 a.m. at the Pennsylvania State Police Headquarters in Susquehanna Township, commemorating fallen state troopers. When that happens, you can watch a livestream in the video player above.A second ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. at the State Capitol, honoring all officers across the Commonwealth.Among those remembered is West York Borough Patrolman Andrew Duarte, who was shot and killed at UPMC Memorial Hospital in February of last year.Northern York County Regional Police are also mourning the loss of three officers killed in a September ambush in North Codorus Township: Detectives Mark Baker and Isaiah Emenheiser, along with Detective Sergeant Cody Becker.The ceremonies include a moment of silence, a rifle salute, a reading of the names of the fallen, and the presentation of memorial medals to their families.The president of the Pennsylvania Fraternal Order of Police emphasized the importance of continued community support for law enforcement.“Support your police. Support the officers. We make mistakes, and we know it. But stick by us. It’s my belief they’re out there for the right reason to do good for others,” said Joe Regan, president of the Pennsylvania Fraternal Order of Police.The ceremonies also honored Corporal Timothy O’Connor, who was killed during a traffic stop in Chester County in March.
