Crews from around Berks County responded to a three-alarm fire in Lower Alsace Township Tuesday afternoon.
According to emergency dispatches, the fire broke out at about 3 p.m. at 500 Carsonia Ave in Pennside.
Crews remained on scene for hours battling the blaze at the the large, three-story home, with heavy smoke and flames reported throughout the building.
Crews opened large portions of the roof to contain the fire and ventilate the structure.
The fire was placed under control about 5:20 p.m.
Fire officials said they were referring homeowners to the Red Cross for assistance.
Initial reports indicated that the occupants of the building got out safely.
