Paige Moore founded The Birdy Bunch Parrot Rescue in Throop, offering shelter to over 50 birds while rehabilitating them for new homes.
THROOP, Pa. — There aren’t too many quiet moments at Paige Moore’s home in Throop. Paige got her first pet bird at the age of 13 and has been a bird lover ever since.
“If they love you, they love you and there is no question about that,” Paige Moore said.
In February, Paige started a nonprofit out of her house. It’s called “The Birdy Bunch Parrot Rescue”.
“Get the birds from what ever situation might be. Some are typical surrenders. I love them, but I can’t keep them anymore. Then there are the emergency SPCA cases and then everybody else kind of just comes,” Moore said.
Paige, her boyfriend Evan and Volunteer Leesa Rivera rehabilitate the birds and find them new homes.
“A lot of birds come in and they’re not hand friendly. She takes the bites and the time to get them to the point where they can have a second chance and they can find that next chapter of their life where hopefully is their forever home,” Leesa Rivera said.
Birdy Bunch Parrot Rescue has taken in more than 50 birds since it opened.
“We hear about the dogs. We hear about the cats. But nobody talks about the parrots and these creatures have the intelligence of anywhere to a 3-5 year old,” Rivera said.
If you’d like to help, The Birdy Bunch Parrot Rescue has both Amazon and Chewy wishlists and the rescue is accepting monetary donations for vet bills.
