LOWER MERION — The Bala Avenue Art Walk will be coming back to Bala Cynwyd for the third year, and so will open carry for some of grounds of the event.
In previous years, the annual event along Bala Avenue drew more than 30 art vendors from across the region, along with food, live music, and interactive arts and crafts.
At its most recent meeting, the Lower Merion Board of Commissioners gave final approval to give a waiver “to permit patrons to possess open containers with alcoholic beverages and serve alcoholic beverages in public rights-of-way within a regulated area in a portion of Bala Avenue, between Montgomery Avenue and Cynwyd Road, on September 14, 2025 between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.”
“The sponsor will contact nearby businesses and residents to notify them of the event,” according to a staff memo to the commissioners. “Each establishment will maintain their respective requirements to prevent the sale of alcoholic beverages or use by those underage; provide their own event liability insurance; comply with any Montgomery County temporary food licenses and requirements and any stipulated by the Pennsylvania Liquor and Control Board (PLCB). All servers are paid employees of the participating restaurants and are certified under the Responsible Alcohol Management Program (RAMP) as established by the PLCB.”
Commissioner Louis Rossman expressed his support, calling it a first-class event.
“I would just like to commend City Avenue District for another way of supporting our township and helping Bala Cynwyd get on the radar in a good way,” Rossman said.
