Gabe Alvarez, who led the Erie SeaWolves to their first Eastern League Championship, has been fired by the Detroit Tigers organization as of Tuesday, May 5th.
The Tigers offered the following statement following their decision:

We have terminated the contract of Gabe Alvarez as the manager of Triple-A Toledo due to a violation of club policy. Mike Hessman will serve as interim manager. We will have no further comment.

Alvarez served as manager of the SeaWolves from 2022 to 2024 before his promotion to triple-A Toledo in 2025.
The 52-year-old led Erie to three straight appearances in the Eastern League championship series including the club winning its first league title in 2023 under his direction.
Alvarez guided Erie to back to back championships in 23′ and 2024 along with the three southwest division titles and 2022 league championship appearance.
