Diane M. Jenkins
OBITUARY
Diane M. Jenkins, 80, of Scranton, died May 3 at Allied Hospice after a brief illness. She and her husband James would have celebrated their 58th anniversary in June.
A lifelong resident of Scranton, Diane was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ruth Coury. She was a 1963 graduate of West Scranton High School and a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Church. Diane was employed by Clarks Summit State Hospital and the former Mercy Hospital.
Diane was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and she cherished the companionship of her four-legged friends. Her home was always filled with at least one wagging tail. A diehard New York Yankees fan, Diane loved watching the games with her husband. She was an avid bowler and a member of the Lucky Strikers for many years. Bowling was often just the excuse for Wednesday lunches with her friends, a tradition that continued long after her bowling days ended.
In addition to her husband, Diane is survived by her two daughters: Elizabeth DeFrancesco and her husband Salvatore, Moosic, and Dana Mushak and her husband Gene, Scranton; and her grandchildren: Salvatore, Katharine, Anthony, Jacob, Benjamin, and Samantha. She is also survived by her brother, Ralph Coury and his wife Robin, Murrells Inlet, SC; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her closest confidant, her cousin Rosalie Lasako.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Lillian Kornblatt.
The family would like to extend its gratitude to the nurses of Allied Hospice for her care during her final days.
A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church followed by entombment at Cathedral Cemetery Mausoleum will be private. Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution to honor the life of Diane should donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or www.stjude.org.
Arrangements are under the care of the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, 125 N. Main Avenue, Scranton. Visit the funeral home’s website to leave a condolence.
