The Lehigh Valley is deciding how to invest $4.3 billion dollars in the next 25 years for transportation infrastructure, and the public has a chance to shape how to spend it.
The Lehigh Valley Planning Commission (LVPC) is updating FutureLV: The Regional Plan, the Bi-County Comprehensive Plan and Metropolitan Transportation Plan, and is asking Lehigh Valley residents to spend ten minutes to help identify where the region’s transportation network needs improvement.
This survey will remain open through May 16, and the more voices the better the plan, so sharing with friends and neighbors is encouraged by the LVPC.
FutureLV: The Regional Plan is among the first comprehensive plans in the nation that merges the land use, economic, environmental, housing, preservation and farming policies with the transportation planning and investment policies.
FutureLV is a blueprint of how the region should manage its growth, development and transportation needs through 2050 and beyond. Its land use policies will help shape communities and its transportation plan includes an estimated $4.3 billion to be spent on roads, bridges, trails, transit and community safety projects in every corner of the region — from Route 22 to the Hill-To-Hill Bridge to improvements to the D&L Trail.
Roughly 80% of the transportation money comes from the US Department of Transportation and the rest comes from state and local sources.
The LVPC will spend the next several months evaluating which projects are funded, and the survey will help set those priorities.
More information about the FutureLV process, how people can give their ideas during a full schedule of public meetings, and take the survey are available at lvpc.org/comprehensive-plan
FutureLV will be completed next year and the transportation funding begins October 1, 2027.
