The Linden Street bridge in Scranton was closed to motorists Wednesday and will stay that way for the rest of the year as a rehabilitation project is carried out, the state Department of Transportation said. PennDOT crews shut down both lanes of the bridge between Seventh and Mifflin avenues, spanning the Lackawanna River, rail lines and the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail. A detour using Seventh and Lackawanna avenues will be in place during the shutdown, but pedestrians will still be able to use the Linden Street bridge. Officials had hoped to close just one side of the bridge, but PennDOT District 4 spokeswoman Jessica Ruddy said Tuesday they decided to close it for the safety of drivers and work crews.
