Large smoke was captured emitting from an historic church after a fire broke out in Allegheny County Wednesday afternoon. Allegheny County dispatchers first confirmed to Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 that crews were on the scene in the 3700 block of Saxonburg Boulevard following reports of flames inside a church. Dispatchers said firefighters were on the scene at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Indiana Township just after 3 p.m. Action News 4 later arrived at the scene, where firefighters were seen examining the top portion of the structure. A video later shared showed large amounts of white smoke billowing from the church when flames began. Watch video belowReverend David Mears spoke to Pittsburgh’s Action News on the scene, who said they were getting ready to celebrate the church’s 175th anniversary in the community. “We have become part of this community; we have groups that use the church, and we support food pantries that support the community,” Mears said. “We’ve been a gathering place for the community. This is a place where everyone is welcomed, we have intruded that message, and we will figure out how to keep doing it.”Indiana Township Supervisor (District 5) Jonathan Neumann later issued a statement following the fire, saying that although the incident is tragic, he is thankful no injuries were reported.”Thank God no one from the congregation or our brave first responders was hurt. Still, this is a tragedy, and it hits particularly hard for me as a member of the Trinity congregation. Hard to put into words the pain it felt to see the fire when I walked up out from the woods behind the Township Building,” he said. “Communities rebuild. Congregations rebuild. But this will take time, patience, and a lot of faith.”Fire officials on the scene said no injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
