Thousands of power outages reported around Lehigh Valley

Thousands of power outages have been reported around the Lehigh Valley on Wednesday night.

In Lehigh County, nearly 2,500 PPL customers in Allentown were without power as of 9 p.m., according to the utility’s outage map. The outages were centered just to the east of Alton Park, in an area south of Interstate 78 between Lehigh Street and Emmaus Avenue.

The cause of that outage was a tripped breaker or blown fuse, according to PPL’s website.

In Northampton County, more than 6,500 Met-Ed customers in the Easton area had no power as of 9 p.m. The bulk of the outages, some 3,600, were in Palmer Township. Forks Township reported another 1,800 outages, and Easton reported about 900, according to Met-Ed’s outage site.

No cause for that outage was listed.
