Historical designation considered for Erie Maennerchor Club
Another City of Erie building may be on its way to a historical designation pending a council vote.
Wednesday, Erie City Council heard a public hearing to consider testimony about whether or not to designate the Erie Maennerchor Club on State Street as a historic building.

The owner of the building said the former social club was built by German immigrants in the late 1800s, and it’s stood the test of time.
He said historical designation could bring new opportunity to the site.
“My family promised to leave things better, so we have spent a lot of time and money cleaning the place, making repairs, a new cooling tower, new roof.” “It’s a very rich history, a lot of people have a lot of history there,” said Julio Reyes, the co-owner of the Meannerchor Club.
Erie City Council will vote on whether or not to historically designate the building at a later date.
