The City of Erie is moving forward with its summer paving plan to smooth out city streets.
Jason Sayers, the city’s public works director, said the city is spending $2.5 million on this year’s summer street paving plan.

He said they’re paving about 8 to 10 miles of road, split between Erie’s east and west side.
To figure out which streets to repair, they’re using a mixture of technology, public input and in-person surveying to map out their plan.
“With the Erie winters we have and the freeze-thaw cycle, you have to keep up with this every year, so every year we at least try to put out $2 million dollars, sometimes upwards of $3 million, depending on our funding and some of the different programs we have going on each particular summer,” said Sayers.
Sayers said they’ll be paving until the fall, and asks drivers to obey road closures and no parking signs if they see them out working.
