The City of Erie Announced the 2026 Summer of Reading. It was announced that Mayor Daria Devlin will start her own book club with a wide selection of books, encouraging adults and kids to read throughout the summer.
The literature includes The Small and the Mighty: Twelve Unsung Americans Who Changed the Course of History, from the Founding of the Civil Rights Movement. This selection explores American history and civic engagement just ahead of the America250 celebrations.
The book will be available for purchase at Werner Books and Pressed. At Erie County Library locations, the book can be checked out and will include a special “Mayor’s Book Club,” bookmark.
Future events for this book club will be announced throughout the summer.

As part of any funding for community development block, grants and city parks funding, there has to be a form of literacy to receive that funding according to the mayor.
