MONROE TWP., Pa. (EYT) — A New Bethlehem man is accused of retail theft after state police say he stole over $260 in merchandise from Walmart while working as a Spark delivery driver.
According to court records, 29-year-old Josueth Balza-Chacon, was charged with one count of retail theft, a first-degree misdemeanor, following an investigation into incidents that occurred in December 2025.
A criminal complaint filed by Clarion-based State Police, troopers responded to the Walmart in Monroe Township on January 4 for a reported retail theft.
According to the affidavit, Balza-Chacon, who worked as a Spark delivery driver, arrived at the store on December 12, 2025, to fulfill delivery orders. Police say he selected items for those orders but also placed additional items in his cart that were not part of the legitimate transactions.
Balza-Chacon then went to the self-checkout and completed the delivery orders, but did not scan the extra items, the complaint states. He allegedly left the store without paying for the additional merchandise.
Stolen items included sweatpants, a baseball cap, an analog watch, shoes, and a headwrap, according to the complaint. Police noted other stolen goods included a bundle of rope, milk, a tenderloin, a pork butt, and kitty litter.
The total value of the stolen merchandise across two dates was $264.75, according to the complaint.
A store employee identified Balza-Chacon by cross-referencing delivery records with surveillance footage, the affidavit states.
A state trooper later recognized Balza-Chacon from the surveillance footage during a traffic stop on January 5, according to the complaint. The trooper observed Balza-Chacon operating a blue sedan on Route 66 and confirmed his identity through his driver’s license, the complaint notes.
Balza-Chacon is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on May 19 at 9:45 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Jeffrey C. Miller.
