Senate has approved legislation proposed by Senator Wayne Langerholc Jr. to eliminate outdated vehicle emissions program in Pennsylvania. This bill was approved by Senate in a bipartisan manner.
Within the commonwealth 25 counties are currently subjected to annual emissions testing. Senate Bill 1298 will remove this requirement and ensure that additional counties cannot be added into the program.
“People are being squeezed from every direction, and the last thing they should be forced to bankroll are outdated mandates that do nothing but drain their wallets,” said Langerholc. “If a mandate doesn’t serve the public anymore, it has no business siphoning money from working families.”
In February 2025 Senate passed this legislation and every legislative session since the 2019 to 2020 legislative session. These measures had yet to receive consideration in the House of Representatives.
In response Langerholc stated, “It is beyond time that the House of Representatives bring vehicle emissions reform to a vote and give Pennsylvania motorists much needed relief.”
The bill now goes to House of Representatives for consideration.
