TURNING BACK TO THAT BREAKING NEWS, WE DID JUST CONFIRM WITH WILKINSBURG POLICE THAT A MAN WHO ALLEGEDLY HIT AND SERIOUSLY INJURED TWO TEENAGE GIRLS WITH HIS CAR WAS JUST TAKEN INTO CUSTODY. PITTSBURGH’S ACTION NEWS FOUR REPORTER AVA RASH JUST INTERVIEWED THE MOTHER OF ONE OF THOSE GIRLS WHO HAD TO UNDERGO A MAJOR SURGERY AS A RESULT. EVA, YOU’RE LIVE AT THE WILKINSBURG POLICE DEPARTMENT. IT’S BEEN A VERY BUSY COUPLE OF HOURS FOR YOU. WHAT’S THE LATEST ON THIS CASE? OH MY GOSH, JANELLE AND ELEANOR, THERE ARE SO MANY MOVING PARTS TO THIS. SO WE’RE GOING TO BREAK IT DOWN FOR YOU. THE FIRST THING THAT I CAN TELL YOU IS THAT I SPOKE WITH WILKINSBURG POLICE, AND THEY TELL ME THAT GEORGE MITCHELL THE SECOND, WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ALONG FRANKSTOWN ROAD EARLIER THIS MORNING. HE IS ACCUSED OF HITTING TWO TEENAGE GIRLS HERE IN WILKINSBURG ON DOYLE STREET YESTERDAY AFTERNOON, CAUSING SERIOUS INJURIES TO BOTH OF THEM. NOW, AT THIS POINT, WE DO KNOW THAT HE WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER A QUICK SEARCH OF THE AREA. HE ALLEGEDLY CRASHED HIS CAR THERE. HE IS NOW BEING TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. NOW, I SPOKE WITH ANGELA. SHE IS THE MOTHER OF PRUDENCE, A 14 YEAR OLD GIRL WHO WAS HIT HERE YESTERDAY, SERIOUSLY INJURED. HER MOM SAYS THAT SHE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH TWO BROKEN LEGS WHENEVER SHE GOT ON SCENE. PRUDENCE WASN’T MOVING HER LEGS. A REALLY SCARY SITUATION, TRAUMATIZING FOR EVERYONE INVOLVED. SHE HAD TO GET A SURGERY AND HER PARENTS SAY IT’S JUST ONE OF MANY THAT SHE’S GOING TO NEED. THEY DO SAY THAT SHE IS DOING WELL. SHE’S A TOUGH GIRL. THEY JUST CAN’T BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED TO HER. TAKE A LISTEN. THEY’RE KEEPING HER INTUBATED THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT, SO WE REALLY CAN’T WATCH HER SLEEP, HOLD HER HAND AND CRY. SO WE’RE GOING TO BE BACK UP HERE SOON. WE HAVE A 16 YEAR OLD SON, AND HE CAN’T BE UP THERE IN THE ICU WITH US. SO WE DIDN’T WANT TO LEAVE HIM ALONE BECAUSE HE’S HE’S TRAUMATIZED. HE SAW HIS SISTER LYING ON THE GROUND. JUST A HORRIBLE SITUATION. WE ARE SENDING OUR PRAYERS TO PRUDENCE AND THE OTHER GIRL IN THIS SITUATION. WE’RE GOING TO KEEP YOU UPDATED ON THIS THROUGHOUT THE DAY. A man was taken into custody Friday morning after Wilkinsburg police said he hit two teen girls with a car Thursday. According to police, George Mitchell II was taken into custody on Frankstown Road after he crashed a car. There was a search for him, and he was taken into custody and later taken to the hospital. Wilkinsburg police said Mitchell was a robbery suspect in Penn Hills and left there in a black Cadillac sedan.Police said then the hit-and-run happened along Doyle Street Thursday afternoon. Both girls were taken to the hospital. Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 spoke with Angela Sibley. She said her daughter, Prudence, was one of the girls hit.
