Summer Fridays at the Frick, an annual summer concert series, returns to the Frick’s Point Breeze cultural campus for its 12th season, starting in June. This year’s lineup includes a smooth jazz group, a polka band and more.
Alongside the schedule of performers, there will be artmaking activities and food vendors.
To kick off the series, the Frick will host its fifth “Make Music Pittsburgh” night June 5, dedicated to supporting Pittsburghers in their pursuit of music-making. The Stemtecs Band, a smooth jazz group, will perform while Brighton Music Center and Unisound will offer visitors the chance to learn about instruments.
In honor of “Make Music Pittsburgh” night, Brighton Music Center and Unisound will host an “instrument petting zoo,” offering visitors the opportunity to learn more about instruments through hands-on interaction.
Farina Foundation will also be at each night of Summer Fridays, collecting instruments for a donation drive. The foundation furthers the vision of namesake Frank J. Farina, Jr. by providing scholarships, donations of refurbished instruments, financial support for instrument rentals and lessons to children in need.
For the second night, on July 24, The Polkamaniacs, a group known for blending traditional polka with punk, will take the stage. The Pittsburgh-based band’s lively performances feature accordion, guitars, banjo, trumpet, trombone, bass and drums.
Pittsburgh-based band Donora will close out Summer Fridays Aug. 28. Donora’s performance will feature songs from their latest album, “Out Here Bleeding Again.”
