A Wilkes-Barre man who shot another man in the leg on April 7 was arrested Wednesday, according to police.
Nymere Quayon Canada allegedly shot at Roderick Jenkins twice, hitting him once in the leg, seriously injuring him.
Canada, 21, of 188 McLean St., faces charges of aggravated assault, assault with a deadly weapon, reckless endangerment and carrying a firearm without a license.
According to the criminal complaint, at about 6:45 p.m., Scranton police detectives responded to 935 Clay Ave. for the report of a shooting.
Officers found Jenkins sitting on the front porch of the residence, seriously injured. Jenkins pointed out a gunshot wound he sustained to his leg. Officers noted that it both entered and exited his body.
He was transported to Geisinger Community Medical Center and is expected to recover.
Officers reviewed video footage of the area, which showed Canada getting out of the passenger side of a tan Toyota and shooting at Jenkins, hitting him in the leg.
The footage showed Canada getting back in the vehicle, which fled south to Costello Court.
Officers found a 9 mm Luger casing and a strike mark on pavement nearby.
Additional video shows the vehicle driving around with its occupants seemingly looking for Jenkins, police said.
The footage also shows the vehicle at Meadow Avenue and River Street near the Interstate 81 interchange after the shooting and showed the vehicle entering the city prior to the incident, with Domonique Vasquez at the wheel. Investigators identified Vasquez as Canada’s girlfriend.
On April 18, Vasquez was arrested and charged with two counts of criminal conspiracy to commit aggravated assault. On May 5, she waived her preliminary hearing and the charges were transferred to Lackawanna County Court.
Canada was arrested and arraigned on May 5 before District Judge George Seig.
He remains at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $500,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on May 20.
