ERIE, Kan. — The city clerk in Erie has been arrested and fired over allegations of stealing city funds.
Authorities arrested Jessica Altman yesterday on felony theft charges. Thursday afternoon, the Neosho County prosecutor charged Altman with two counts of theft and eight counts of making false information.
Kansas school accused of mishandling student safety issues
This follows an investigation by the Neosho County Sheriff’s Office over missing funds belonging to the City of Erie. According to court documents, the funds total slightly more than $4,500, with the first instance happening back in December.
The investigation is ongoing and city leaders say they are cooperating with the investigation.
The City of Erie fired Altman yesterday. She has been the Erie City Clerk since 2024.
