A fatal collision happened near Corry on Friday afternoon, prompting the coroner to be called to the scene. The crash happened at the intersection of Route 89 and Lovell Road in Concord Township.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene at approximately 1:50 p.m.
According to investigators, the driver of a Chevrolet Equinox was traveling east on Lovell Road and had stopped at the stop sign at the intersection with Route 89. At the same time, the driver of a Honda CR-V was traveling north on Route 89 and approaching the intersection. As the Honda neared the intersection, the Chevrolet proceeded east through it and collided with the Honda.
Following the initial impact, the Honda continued north, veering into a ditch on the east side of the roadway. The vehicle rolled multiple times along Route 89, during which the driver, Benjamin Ewiak Jr., 81, of Erie, was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of his injuries. Authorities said he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Following the accident, the Corry Fire Department announced that Route 89 was closed between Route 6 and Cherry Hill.
