Previewing Scranton Women’s Lacrosse in NCAA Tournament

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— The Scranton women’s lacrosse team is no stranger to postseason play, and this week the team prepares for yet another appearance in the NCAA Division III National Championship.

Here’s more on the team’s philosophy towards success and how they will prepare to try to capture their third straight round-one win on Saturday.

The Scranton women’s lacrosse team has once again punched its golden ticket to the NCAA III national championship.

The team captured its fourth straight landmark conference title over the weekend and now enters round one on a ten-game win streak.

And the lady royals believe that as long as they remember who they are, they can conquer any challenge that lies ahead.

“We like scout a lot for our games and talk about our opponents, but then we also say that it’s important to remember who we are and not to worry so much about the opponent and who we’re playing, but to trust each other,” said Maggie Noonan, Scranton junior defenseman.

“Trust in our teammates, know who we are, and just play our game, just putting all our trust in each other. We’ve been working towards this all season. I think these are the moments where all of our success will really come together,” added Colleen Mullin, Scranton junior attacker.

“We’ve really prepped all year. We’ve played really difficult teams and ranked teams at the beginning of the year, and even in our conference, like, just like working hard every day. So we’ve really been training for this all year, even though it’s this weekend, like this is really our moment to shine,” voiced Becca Paterson, Scranton junior midfield.

And though the team plays fiercely on the field, Scranton head coach Chrissy Trescavage believes it’s their positivity that drives them towards success.

“We try to have a really healthy balance of obviously wanting to win and do great things for the program, but also recognizing the joy in what we’re doing and our friendships and the time that we’re together, and just appreciating it,” said Trescavage.

The Lady Royals finished their regular season with a 15-4 record, going undefeated in conference play, but Trescavage believes all of this success means nothing without the people you accomplish it with.

“We all sacrifice a lot to be division three coaches and to be division three athletes. There’s so much sacrifice that happens. And for me and for our team culture, and i think for our players, being a family on and off the field is everything you know, it’s not worth winning if it’s not with the people that you admire and respect,” added trescavage.

The Lady Royals will face Saint Mary in round one this Saturday at three at the Rowan Soccer and Lacrosse Complex.
