Instead of only delivering mail Saturday, letter carriers across the region also collected donations for Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania as part of the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.
Community members were encouraged to leave non-perishable food items by their mailboxes for carriers to pick up and deliver to local collection sites. The food collected will help serve people in the eleven counties that Second Harvest Food Bank represents.
Several additional drop-off locations were also available throughout the area, including Blessed Sacrament Church, Saint Vincent Hospital, St. George Church, Liberty Plaza, West Erie Plaza, the East 38th Street Post Office and the Presque Isle Legion Post Office.
Organizers said every donation, no matter the size helps support local families facing food insecurity.
