The City of Erie announced its summer recreation guide on Thursday, this year, with a focus on curling up with a good book.
Thursday morning, City of Erie Mayor Daria Devlin announced the city’s 2026 Summer of Reading initiative at the Blasco Library.

The mayor said she wants to put a focus on literacy initiatives, making sure all city-funded programs this summer offer a literacy component.
Devlin said she is also kicking off a mayor’s book club, with opportunities to meet and discuss selected books throughout the summer.

“There’s a lot of conversation around the fact that literacy is a social justice issue. If our kids can’t read. They’ll never be able to make the most of their future, so having those conversations really put it in my mind. Then, of course, we’ve been talking about writing Erie’s next chapter. This is a perfect time,” the mayor told us.
