The investigation continues following an alleged violent crime spree that spread across several Allegheny County communities. Police say 45-year-old George Mitchell Jr. is accused in connection with these incidents Thursday, including a fatal stabbing in Penn Hills and multiple hit-and-run incidents.According to a criminal complaint, the events began around 3 p.m. in North Braddock, where police were called to Bell Avenue. Police say a woman told police a man matching Mitchell’s description held her at gunpoint before driving away in a black Cadillac. The complaint goes on to say that, about an hour later, Penn Hills police were called to Dauntless Drive, where Mitchell allegedly attempted to carjack an older couple with a knife and then leave the scene.The criminal complaint says officers responded to Sampson Street shortly after for a vehicle matching the Cadillac’s description that struck two people. Those victims, a man and a boy, were taken to a nearby hospital. Police say the man suffered a broken collarbone and a fracture to his pelvis, among other injuries, while the boy was treated for superficial injuries.Police said shortly after that, a black Cadillac hit two teenage girls on Doyle Street in Wilkinsburg. One of the victims remains hospitalized.Hours after that incident, around 7 p.m., investigators said a door-to-door salesman on Penny Drive reported that Mitchell allegedly tried to stab him before driving away.Fast forward to just after 9:30 p.m., police said a woman identified as 45-year-old Jinx Hairston arrived at UPMC Mercy Hospital with multiple stab wounds. She later died.Authorities said Hairston was attacked at her home on Penny Drive. Through their investigation, police learned Mitchell had previously lived with her.The criminal complaint says shortly before 11 p.m., officers allegedly spotted Mitchell driving Hairston’s silver Nissan SUV on Penny Drive in Penn Hills. When officers attempted to stop him, Mitchell fled, prompting a chase that was later called off.Police said Mitchell was spotted again in Hairston’s SUV, leading to another chase that ended in a crash and his arrest on Frankstown Road in Penn Hills.Mitchell is now charged with criminal homicide in connection with Hairston’s death.
