Crews responded late Saturday to a fire in an apartment building in the 600 block of Beechwood Avenue in Collingdale.
According to fire radio traffic:
Upon arrival at the three-story building shortly before 11:30 p.m., smoke was reported from the front porch.
Crews were also told that a male went back into the building and into an upstairs back bedroom. He soon came down the fire escape and out of the building.
The fire was located in the rear of a first-floor apartment. The bulk of the fire was reportedly “knocked” about 20 minutes into the incident.
Searches were negative. A search of hot spots continued for some time. The incident was placed under control at 12:20 a.m. An extensive overhaul was expected.
The Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania said it is assisting three people from the fire.
Board-up was sought for six doors and 15 windows.
