Later this morning, Pittsburgh Hockey Now will drop a philosophical piece on the Pittsburgh Penguins’ offseason plans and why general manager Kyle Dubas can’t be quiet this offseason. In the meantime, we’ll again dig into the prospects and projections. Elsewhere in the Daily, there’s a lot of NHL trade chatter that top-10 picks in the draft could be available, including a top-five pick. The Carolina Hurricanes swept away the Philadelphia Flyers, and Vegas Golden Knights coach John Tortorella teed up Mitch Marner critics after the forwards netted a hat trick in Game 3.

Has anyone else noticed a swift and immediate move from news and gossip in print to putting all of that info into podcasts and video? I don’t understand this consumer trend–why sit through an hour long pod or 10 minute video when you could read the same in two minutes? I see a coming shift in media again.

We as a species are just so screwed.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: I did it backward Saturday by publishing the big story early and the Daily later. It was a little experiment. Edmonton Hockey Now: Goalies. Anyone but Tristan Jarry. The Edmonton Oilers are goalie shopping, and the team that lines up well is the Detroit Red Wings. The Oilers trade rumors are front and center.

And the Vancouver Canucks GM gig is down to two people.

The Canucks have started telling candidates that they are no longer in the running for the GM job.

Sounds like it is down to Ryan Johnson and Evan Gold.

San Jose Hockey Now: GM Mike Grier went from hot seat to catbird seat in about 18 months. Now, the San Jose Sharks have the second overall pick, and Grier did not rule out trading away the pick if it makes his team better. Those trade rumors are going to get wild, but in the meantime Sheng Peng tempers that talk (which he started by reporting Grier’s own words) with the SEVEN prospects available for the Sharks draft.

Philly Hockey Now: Yep, Philly got swept out by Carolina. Rick Tocchet and Travis Konecny had it out on the bench during the game. And Tocchet scratched Matvei Michkov for prospect Jett Luchanko. But through it all, there is a sense of optimism, even as fans are boiling mad at Tocchet (seriously?!). Will James brings it home for the emerging Philly Flyers.

If Flyers fans don’t think Tocchet is a good coach, that would be a bad look. Tocchet won the series against the Penguins by knowing their two fatal flaws and exploiting them fully.

Colorado Hockey Now: What a game. Colorado vs. Minnesota is being played at a speed that makes it a must-watch. It’s unbelievable hockey. The Minnesota Wild scored a couple of sick goals early, and they won Game 3. It’s a series, and Aarif Deen has some harsh truths and analysis for the Colorado Avalanche.

Sportsnet: Mitch Marner. He’s been a rag doll for critics because of his playoff numbers. VGK head coach John Tortorella stood up for his player in a big way and with a few expletives, as only Torts can do, in saying it’s time to bury the Marner playoff criticism.

And more NHL trade chatter surrounding the Winnipeg Jets. Is their eighth overall pick in play?

Carolina Hockey Now: And with the win, it’s a bit of history for Carolina. Not since the 1987 Edmonton Oilers has a team won its first eight playoff games. The Carolina Hurricanes are rolling.
