SCRANTON, LACKWANNA CO. (WOLF) — A Scranton man is facing DUI charges after state police say he crashed into a police vehicle early Sunday morning.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the incident happened just before 1 a.m. at the intersection of Olive Street and Penn Avenue in Scranton.
Investigators say two Old Forge police officers were stopped at a red light in a marked patrol vehicle while transporting a female arrestee to the Lackawanna County Processing Center. While waiting at the light, their vehicle was hit from behind by an SUV.
Police say the driver of that vehicle, identified as 45-year-old Pablo Rivera of Scranton, showed signs of impairment at the scene. Troopers say Rivera initially refused to identify himself before being taken into custody.
Authorities later used a fingerprint scan to confirm his identity and discovered he was also wanted on an active felony warrant out of Scranton for a vehicle theft case.
No one was injured in the crash.
Rivera is now facing charges related to driving under the influence, along with additional offenses. He is being held at the Lackawanna County Prison.
