Erie’s Sudanese community hosts special Mother’s Day celebration

The Sudanese community in Erie celebrated Mother’s Day today with a special celebration.

Mothers, daughters, sisters and friends gathered at the Inter Church Ministries of Erie County to celebrate mothers within the community.

With words of appreciation, lots of music and dancing, and plenty of food made for the evening, the celebration highlighted the importance of mothers not only within the Sudanese culture, but in Erie as a whole.

Mayor Daria Devlin attended the celebration to help honor the role mothers take both at home and within the community.

“Mother is mother. Mother is lovely, mother is respectable, mother is nurturing, mother is caring, that’s why we celebrate,” said Victoria Angelo, an organizer.

The celebration continued throughout the evening to show love and recognition to mothers in the community.
