Under the influence, a wanted Scranton man hits a cop car at a red light, police said

Of all the cars parked at all the red lights of the world, Pablo Rivera rear-ended perhaps the worst one.

That’s because the car that state police said Rivera, 45, ran into the back of early Saturday morning while under the influence was a police cruiser taking an arrestee to the Lackawanna County Processing Center.

Rivera, of Scranton, was arrested for driving under the influence, providing false identification to the police and possession of drug paraphernalia.

State police said he rear-ended Old Forge officers Patrick Walsh and Roberto Martinez while they were stopped at a red light at Olive Street and Penn Avenue just before 1 a.m. The Old Forge police officers were taking an arrestee in for processing.

No one was hurt.

Once the crash happened, the police said he refused to identify himself. However, a fingerprint scan turned up an active warrant for vehicle theft.

Bail and preliminary hearing information was not immediately available.
