Pa. voters face deadline to request mail-in ballots

Pennsylvania voters have until 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, to request a mail-in ballot for the primary election, which is just one week later on the 19th. Voters who choose to vote by mail can either visit their county election office to pick up a ballot or apply online at vote.pa.gov. Both options must be completed before the 5 p.m. deadline. Sean Drasher, director of elections for Lebanon County, explained what voters can do if they encounter issues with their mail-in ballots. “If you don’t have time to return the ballot or you lose the ballot, that does happen. You can still go on Election Day and vote,” Drasher said. “We’re going to do something called provisional ballot that counts just the same as a regular ballot. We just take time to make sure that we account for what was valid.” Drasher says they also ensure that voters cannot do both voting by mail and voting in person. He encouraged voters to locate their mail-in ballots and turn them in to vote on Election Day. If the ballot is lost, provisional ballots are available as an alternative. Voters are also reminded to mail their ballots with enough time for them to arrive at their county election office before 8 p.m. on primary day.
