Advocates push for renewable energy growth in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania ranks near the bottom nationally for renewable energy growth, prompting advocates to call for policy changes to address the issue. New data from PennEnvironment shows Pennsylvania ranks 47th in the nation for renewable energy growth over the past decade. Advocates gathered at the state Capitol Rotunda to highlight the findings and push for change. The report states that Pennsylvania’s solar, wind, and geothermal energy generation grew by 81% over the last ten years, far below the national average of nearly 200%. Renewables currently account for just 5% of the state’s electricity. “Clean energy is possible in Pennsylvania, but what we have done so far is nowhere near enough. Unless Pennsylvania state leaders change course, the keystone state will fall behind in a nation that is powered more and more by renewable energy,” Belle Sherwood of PennEnvironment said. The report also noted that Pennsylvania performed better in electric vehicle infrastructure, ranking 11th nationally for growth in charging ports.
