Dozens of dogs are now safe and in the care of the Brandywine Valley SPCA after being found living in unsanitary conditions at a home in Pennsylvania.
The animal welfare organization announced that their law enforcement team rescued nearly 50 dogs from a home in Delaware County on Friday, May 8, 2026.
The small dogs, including a nursing mother and her six newborn puppies, were removed from dark, filthy conditions with poor air quality.

All the animals were brought to the organization’s West Chester campus, where their medical teams evaluated and provided care.
The dogs had been covered in filth, some needed emergency spay surgery for life-threatening infections.
“Our team has been working around the clock since these dogs came into our care last week, and they will continue to assess any further needs the animals have as they prepare for better lives ahead,” Brandywine Valley SPCA CEO Adam Lamb said in a news release. “We are grateful to our community who steps up to help support large cases like this, so that we can continue to answer the call to help the most vulnerable.”
Since their rescue, many of the dogs received the full “spaw” treatment and had grooming sessions to prepare them for adoption.
Charges related to the neglect of these animals have been filed, but the investigation remains open.
