PALMER TWP., Pa. – Almost $400,000 in federal and state dollars will be going towards a project in Palmer Township, Northampton County aimed at improving road safety for students and trail users.
Te Federal Highway Administration and PennDOT awarded $399,754 for the development of the William Penn Highway School and Trail Crossing Project, the township said in a Facebook post.
It’s all part of the Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside program.
The township said the project will create a safe route to school and improved trail crossing along William Penn Highway at the Palmer Bikeway/Two Rivers Trailway.
Adjacent to the Easton Area High School, the project will install a new protected mid-block crossing, safety signage, and school zone designations to improve safety for all road users, especially students and trail users, the township said.
According to the township, design will start over the next year, with construction expected to start in 2027.
