(NewsNation) — For the small town of Latrobe, Pennsylvania, the demise of Spirit Airlines is a big problem.
The Arnold Palmer Airport is the only hub in the country that relied solely on the low-cost carrier for commercial flights. That means the only flights going in and out of Latrobe right now are chartered or private.
As a result, it has become the only airport in the country to lose 100% of its commercial flights. Westmoreland County Airport Authority Moe Haas joined NewsNation on Wednesday to discuss the impact on Latrobe.
“It’s a big economic impact blow to us. … You know, we’re probably looking at around $100 million” in lost revenue, Haas said.

“This place is our second home to a lot of us. I mean, you know, I’ve been here since 1990 and came up through the ranks and we take a lot of pride and joy in this airport. We’re like one big family.”
Haas said since Spirit began flying into Latrobe in 2011, 3.3 million passengers have come through the airport.
“That shows that we have the need, that people around this area want to fly out of here. I mean, they like the convenience, they like the destinations that we’re around,” he said.
“We’re working with an aviation consultant to try to draw one in,” Haas added,
