Meals on Wheels Erie is marking 55 years of delivering meals to homebound residents across Erie County.
The organization began in 1971 as a small parish effort in Lawrence Park and has since expanded to serve communities from Northeast to Girard and as far south as Waterford and Edinboro.
Executive Director Jennifer Hoffman said the group’s mission has always been about more than food.
“We’ve been able not just to bring a meal, because it’s so much more than just a meal — it’s connection,” Hoffman said. “For 55 years, we’ve been able to be a part of people’s lives across Erie County, and that’s been a privilege.”
To celebrate the milestone, Meals on Wheels Erie will host a fundraiser, At Her Table, on May 15 at the Erie Art Museum. The event will include live entertainment, small plates from Calley’s West and a cocktail reception.
Hoffman said the celebration also recognizes the volunteers, board members and supporters who have sustained the organization for more than five decades.
