The Erie Town Fair returns this weekend, bringing a day of food, music and local vendors to the heart of Old Town Erie.

The 29th annual fair will bring local craft vendors to historic downtown Erie from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. At nearby Coal Creek Park between Wells and Cheesman streets, visitors can find more food along with kids activities and a live music lineup between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Only a handful of craft vendor spots remained available as of this week, while the food vendor application process had already been filled by Tuesday, according to the Erie Chamber of Commerce website.

The music lineup is set to begin at 1 p.m. with the Erie High School jazz band, followed by the Rockin’ Horse Band, and headliner Chris Daniels & The Kings closing out the evening from 5-7 p.m.

Car enthusiasts can also stop by the Garage Rats Car Show, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Coal Creek Park parking lot at 575 Kattell St.

Organizers are encouraging attendees to leave pets at home.

To help ease congestion, the Erie Bee transit service will run “double the usual fleet for the day,” according to the town, or visitors can park for free at the Erie Community Center and hop on the Town Fair Shuttle, running every 15 minutes. Bike parking will also be available at the Erie Bike Plaza at Pierce and Wells streets.

Several downtown roads will be closed from 5:30 a.m. Saturday until about 6 p.m., including stretches of Briggs, Wells and Moffat streets. Part of Kattell Street will remain closed until 7:30 p.m.

Organizers said access to the Erie post office will remain open through a designated alley route off Moffat Street.

Parking will be available throughout nearby residential areas, at the Erie United Methodist Church and Calvary Bible Church, at 615 Evans St. Limited disability parking will be available at the north end of Coal Creek Park and on Moffat between Kattell and “the alley heading west,” according to the website.

The fair serves as one of Erie’s signature community events. A major tradition is also coming up: Erie’s three-day balloon launch festival, scheduled for July 10-12.
