The annual Jimmy Connors Summer Concert Series at Nay Aug Park in Scranton will feature over two dozen groups playing rock, blues, brass, dixieland, polka, Irish, German and other styles of music.
The series began May 3 with the U.S. Navy Band Cruisers performing hits from the 1960s through today.
“Our Navy Band Concert was fantastic. They played nonstop for 90 minutes,” said Bob Gattens of the Scranton Municipal Recreation Authority that oversees Nay Aug Park, which hosts the free concert series.
The next concert is Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m., featuring Flaxy Morgan.
Concerts will continue on Sunday afternoons, most 2 to 4 p.m., and then, as summer progresses, concerts also will take place on some Mondays and other weeknights, each from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The popular summer concert series was named in honor of Connors, a former mayor who died in 2024 at age 77, and whose favorite venue was the Sunday Concert Series at Nay Aug Park.
A natural performer, the genial Connors enjoyed getting up on stage to sing with any band playing “Johnny B. Goode” and substituting “Jimmy B. Goode” in the chorus.
Schedules of this summer’s series will be available at all concerts.
