HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — While the primary election is Tuesday, a new campaign is making its way through Harrisburg.

As cases continue to rise, Mr. Measles himself was out and about spreading his message to more people across the Commonwealth. After kicking off his campaign in Washington D.C., he made a stop in Harrisburg.

“Measles is on the ballot this November,” Alan Jacobs of Mr. Measles For America Campaign said. “RFK and the administration have been doing everything in their power to restrict access to childhood vaccines and to change the childhood vaccine schedule. And so because they’ve put measles on the ballot, we decided to have Mr. Measles himself run his own campaign and kind of talk about how great measles is and spread the message far and wide to as many kids in America as possible.”

This, as cases continue to rise in parts of Pennsylvania, which is concerning, Jacobs said.

“Hugely concerning. I mean, we were on the brink of, or we had eliminated measles in this country, and now we’re on the brink of kind of losing that elimination status,” he said.

Its also a huge concern for Dr. John Goldman at UPMC, who said the state has already seen more Measles cases within the last decade or two.

“And in this we have already seen more cases than in Pennsylvania than we’ve probably seen in the last 15, 20 years,” Goldman said.

As for the spike, Goldman said he knows that those who get Measles aren’t vaccinated and vaccines are something RFK has spoken against.

“I think vaccines are super important,” John McDevitt, of Harrisburg, said. “I’m a big believer in science and the research that shows that vaccines are safe. And so I think that everything that RFK is doing is just hurting America. And so we have to help protect the kids.”

Mr. Measles’ campaign is traveling to other states where cases have spiked.
