ALLENTOWN, Pa. (WFMZ) — As people gear up to hit the road this summer, their trips could look a little different than usual — whether it be a shorter route or budgeting more to cover the cost of gas.
“The price of gas definitely deters some people from taking trips and using campers,” said Brandon Ziegler.
Brandon Ziegler of Ziegler’s RV told us he’s definitely noticed a change over the last couple of months.
“We see a lot of our repeat customers coming back but not as many new people. We get a lot of people that go to Knoebels, we get some people that’ll go up to like Niagara Falls but not much further than that,” Ziegler explained.
Ziegler said the average customer filling up a camper from empty will pay $230 this summer, compared to $155 last year.
“To take a 500-mile trip, it would cost you almost another $75 in gas compared to last year,” Ziegler stated.
But Ziegler said to not let the price put a damper on your vacation.
“You just have to budget for it. It’s a vacation, sometimes it might cost a little bit more,” Zieler said.
Despite a slower than usual start to the season, Ziegler isn’t worried.
“You just kind of have to roll with it. It’s out of our control. We can’t control the price of gas, we can’t control the price of the campers. All of that has gone up,” Ziegler concluded.
