NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, Pa. – Pennsylvania State Police said a man had approximately 40 pounds of marijuana in a vehicle he was driving in Northampton County.
Authorities charged Robert Melvin Termane Gilliard, of New York, with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and related offenses, according to a news release from the Northampton County District Attorney’s Office.
State police stopped a vehicle Gilliard was driving for vehicle code violations Tuesday, the DA’s office said.
The DA’s office said troopers saw suspected drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle during the stop.
Troopers removed Gilliard from the vehicle, the DA’s office said. A certified narcotics detection canine alerted troopers that controlled substances were in the vehicle, according to the news release.
The DA’s office said authorities then detained Gilliard.
Authorities seized approximately 40 pounds of marijuana from the vehicle after getting a search warrant, the DA’s office said.
Gilliard was arraigned and taken to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $40,000 bail, according to the DA’s office.
