Staff and volunteers at the The ANNA Shelter are coming off a busy weekend after helping rescue and care for 20 cats.
According to a post on the shelter’s Facebook page, staff received calls Friday night about a man pushing a cart filled with cats in downtown Erie.
Workers with the shelter located the man as he arrived at the ANNA Shelter Wellness Center. He reportedly told staff he had been trying to get the cats medical care at a veterinarian’s office on Monday.
The man said he was homeless and struggling to properly care for the animals himself, but wanted to make sure they were safe and cared for.
Volunteers with the ANNA Shelter stepped in to help process and care for the cats. By Friday evening, the animals had been cleaned, fed, and were resting comfortably.
