Erie police are investigating a serious injury crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV that occurred Sunday evening.
The collision happened just before 6:00 p.m. at the intersection of West 12th Street and Pittsburgh Avenue. According to investigators, a motorcyclist a man in his 30s was traveling eastbound on West 12th Street when a Kia SUV traveling westbound attempted to turn left onto Pittsburgh Avenue.
Police say the SUV turned in front of the motorcycle, leading to a violent collision. The impact caused the motorcyclist to go airborne, striking the windshield of the SUV before landing on the roadway.
The rider sustained severe injuries and was transported for medical treatment. Authorities noted he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The driver of the SUV was not injured.
Following investigations, it was discovered that speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash. Erie police traffic investigators processed the scene, collecting evidence and working to reconstruct the events leading up to the collision.
The incident remains under investigation.
