“We are honored to partner with the Mayor’s Office, Creative Philadelphia, and the Original Music City Task Force to give guests from around the world a taste of Philadelphia’s vibrant and diverse music scene,” said Leah Douglas, PHL’s director of guest experience, in a news release. “For more than 25 years, the airport has successfully highlighted the city’s visual artists and cultural institutions through its award-winning exhibitions program. Now it has expanded to include live performances at PHL, spotlighting Philadelphia’s rich musical history while celebrating the artists who shape its future.”
Live Music at PHL kicked off on May 14 and will bring performances to multiple airport locations on select weekdays through August.
The May lineup features the following:
West Philadelphia Orchestra (Avant Funk Village Brass Band) on May 19DJ Robert Drake from WXPN (Sounds of Philadelphia) on May 21Ernesto’s Club (Brazilian samba and choro) on May 28
The musical performance series comes as PHL officials project the airport will handle a record-breaking 9.4 million travelers this summer, as the city hosts the FIFA World Cup, activities for the 250th anniversary of the United States, and the MLB All-Star Game.
