Alleged intruders were shot in a pair of separate incidents that happened within the span of an hour early Sunday morning in Northeast and West Philadelphia.
Police said a man was shot in the chest just before 1:15 a.m. after breaking into a home on the 1600 block of Griffith Street in Rhawnhurst. He was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he died a short time later, according to authorities.
About an hour earlier, at around 12:05 a.m., officers responding to a report of a person with a gun found a gunshot victim at a gas station at 37th Street and Girard Avenue, near the Philadelphia Zoo, law enforcement officials said.
The 33-year-old man had been struck in his back, neck and left arm and was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in critical condition, according to the PPD.
Investigators said he was shot while trying to get through the first-floor window of a house on the nearby 3800 block of Cambridge Street. Police found three spent shell casings and recovered multiple weapons, officials added.
The two shootings are unrelated, a PPD spokesperson told Metro. In both incidents, the shooter remained at the scene and is cooperating with detectives, they said. It is unclear whether either will face any charges, and police indicated that both shootings are still being investigated.
