The Upper Darby Fire Department, police and medical personnel were called Tuesday afternoon about 5:30 p.m. to the 400 block of Millbank Road for a house fire.

The dispatch was for an oil fire in the kitchen. Upon arrival crews reported a two-story middle-of-the-row house with fire on the first floor.

Crews very quickly deployed, stretching one line, then darkened down the flames and searched the property.

The incident was placed under control at 5:59 p.m. The Red Cross was asked to come to the scene.

Upper Darby Professional Firefighters later added that C Platoon companies were dispatched to the block and while en route, the chief on duty advised of a column of smoke showing from 69th Street and requested the working fire dispatch, adding Garrettford-Drexel Hill Fire Company and surrounding mutual aid companies.

Cardington-Stonehurst Engine 36 stretched for fire attack as Upper Darby Truck 37 reported fire showing from the 1st floor in the rear. The fire was knocked down quickly with no extension to the second floor and the job was placed under control at the first 20-minute mark. Companies remained on scene for approximately 90 minutes performing overhaul.

Assisting were Darby Fire Company, Llanerch Fire Company, Manoa Fire Company and STAT Medical Transport.
