Dominican community celebrates Independence Day in Allentown with flag-raising ceremony | Allentown Area

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Dominican community in Allentown gathered to celebrate the Dominican Republic’s Independence Day.

The Dominican Flag was raised at City Hall on Sunday afternoon, marking the countries declaration of independence from Haiti in 1844.

This event also celebrates the Dominican population in Allentown.

According to the 2020 census, more than half the city identifies as Latino or Hispanic, with around 18,000 residents being of Dominican descent.
